Hair removal works on a principle called selective photothermolysis: the melanin (pigment) in the hair absorbs the light far more readily than the surrounding skin. As the pigment absorbs the pulsed light, it heats up and that heat travels down the shaft to the follicle, damaging the structures responsible for regrowth. OPT delivers this light in a sequence of even, lower-peak pulses rather than one harsh flash, which keeps the skin more comfortable while still reaching the temperature needed to disable the follicle. Because only follicles in the active growth phase respond fully, repeat sessions are needed to treat them all over time.
